Fair Haven / Little Sodus

LITTLE SODUS
Settled prior to 1811. First hotel, Abijah Hunt, 1825. First store, G. Taylor, 1825

New York State lists this marker as having been placed in Fair Haven in 1935 by the State Education Department, but the location of the marker is unknown.  Have you seen it?

The post office name was changed to Fair Haven in 1851. Prior to this it was the Little Sodus Post Office, taking its name from Little Sodus Bay. The Village of Fair Haven was incorporated in 1880.

The Hunt Hotel sat on Main Street overlooking Hunt’s point, near the West End Express gas station. Taylor’s store was located on the east side of Lake Street.
