Harry Snyder – Past President
2013 will soon become history; but the things that were accomplished by the members of the Sterling Historical Society this year will long be remembered. I will start with projects that involved the infamous A-Team. First up was the replacement of the Rail Road Tower stairway, then repairs to the septic system. New projects include a new parking lot, a new rail fence and the Sterling Heritage Park entry sign. The remodeling of the old Black Smith Shop was begun. When completed it will house a display of all the former schools that were located throughout Sterling. Upstairs in the Red Schoolhouse new display walls were built; and the women of the B-Team are creating a display of the CCC History of Fair Haven Park as well as a military display honoring those from Sterling that served in wartime.
I have decided to step down this year for health reasons. I feel that we were very fortunate in our selection of a new President, Patricia Shortslef. Having worked with Pat these past years I know she will be an excellent leader and take SHS to a new level. I would like to thank the offi cers, trustees, members, A-team, B-Team, visitors, and everyone for their dedication, support and understanding. Judy and I will continue to help where ever we can. Judy has resigned as Treasurer and Jim Chaffee has been elected to be Treasurer. We all know Jim and know that he will be great at this job. I just hope he has time to still be part of the A-Team. A special thanks go to Carl Dates, Trustee for many years, who has resigned. I would like to thank him for all his guidance and help. He will be replaced by Leigh Shortslef who has been one of our hardest working members.
Thanks and hope to see you at the museum.
Pat Shortslef – New President
Now I guess it is my turn. My name is Pat Shortslef, and I will be taking over for Harry Snyder who has accomplished many things while serving as President of the Historical Society. I will have some big shoes to fi ll, and I’m definitely looking forward to this challenge.
One of the fi rst things that is being changed is the date of our meetings. We will still be meeting in the 4th week of the month, but on Tuesday evenings now. I’m excited to see what happens in the Spring and hopefully all will be excited about the changes that hopefully will be taking place. As I said to Harry, “your job is a lot diff erent from the back row than it is standing up in the front.” I am looking forward to a great year, and working along with some wonderful people who know how to get things done.
Your new President,
